Nevada Gaming Control Board seeks to block Coinbase sports contracts

Enforcement & compliance

Nevada’s Gaming Control Board filed a civil enforcement action against Coinbase Financial Markets on 2 February, seeking court orders to stop sports event contracts offered to state residents without a gaming licence. The Board argues that the contracts constitute wagering under Nevada law; Coinbase has argued in other state cases that federal regulators have exclusive jurisdiction over prediction markets.

The requested court orders could prevent Coinbase from offering sports event contracts to Nevada residents.
