Portugal and Hungary prohibit Polymarket over illegal betting

Enforcement & compliance

Portugal’s gaming regulator and Hungary’s regulatory authority prohibited Polymarket in January, classifying its activity as illegal gambling, the report said. Nevada’s gaming control board also filed a civil action against the platform, while Tennessee’s regulator described it as an unlicensed sports betting operation.

Prohibitions in Portugal and Hungary, alongside US enforcement actions, create market-access challenges for Polymarket.
