Nevada Gaming Control Board withdraws charges over alleged illegal betting operation
Nevada’s Gaming Control Board withdrew criminal charges against Las Vegas handicapper William West Roberts, who was accused of operating an unlicensed gambling business. The board had alleged that casino records showed roughly $8 million in bets laid off at Nevada sportsbooks; Clark County prosecutors reportedly served Roberts notice of an intention to seek a grand jury indictment. Roberts denied operating an illegal betting business and said money he received was for sports-wagering tips.
The withdrawal changes the status of the board’s case, while a separate prosecution may still proceed.
