Brazil Senate committee delays vote on proposed betting tax increase
Brazil's Senate Economic Affairs Committee postponed a vote on a proposal by Senator Renan Calheiros to double the 12% tax on betting-sector gross revenue, according to the report. The committee rescheduled the vote for the following Tuesday; if approved, the proposal would go directly to the Chamber of Deputies unless senators request a plenary vote. A PwC report cited by the Betting and Gaming Council says higher taxes may encourage betting on unlicensed platforms.
A higher tax could change licensed operators' costs and the proposal's next legislative step is pending.
