Brazilian Senate committee removes proposed betting revenue transfers from security bill
Brazil's Senate Constitution and Justice Committee approved the base text of the Public Security constitutional amendment without a provision directing betting revenue to security funds, according to a report. The removed provision would have allocated 30% of fixed-odds betting revenue, after specified deductions, to the National Public Security Fund and National Penitentiary Fund. Further amendments were expected to be considered after the elections.
The committee's decision removes a proposed funding source for Brazil's public security and penitentiary funds.
