Brazil Senate committee approves phased online betting tax increase

Regulation

Brazil’s Senate Economic Affairs Committee approved a report proposing a phased increase in the tax on fixed-odds betting GGR, with 23 votes in favour and one against. The proposal sets the rate at 15% in 2026 and 2027, rising to 18% from 2028, instead of an immediate increase to 24%. The bill also proposes tighter authorisation criteria and measures against illegal operators; it still requires further legislative consideration.

The proposed rates would change the tax burden for licensed betting operators in Brazil.
