Brazil delays selective tax bill for betting until after presidential election

Regulation

Brazil’s government has postponed sending a bill on the Selective Tax for sports betting to Congress until after the October presidential election, reportedly over concerns about the political impact of debating new taxes. Officials have settled on a rate internally, but have not disclosed it and could still change it before the bill is submitted; the tax is scheduled to take effect in 2027.

Operators may face an additional tax on sports betting from 2027, but its rate remains undecided publicly.
