Brazil Senate committee approves bill proposing 15% sports betting tax allocation
Brazil’s Senate Constitution and Justice Committee approved an anti-organised-crime bill on 10 December, and the proposal now goes to the Senate plenary. The text would allocate 15% of revenue from sports betting taxes to a crime-fighting fund; estimates cited in the report put potential proceeds at about R$30bn. The IBJR and a parliamentary group opposed the measure, warning it could push bettors towards illegal platforms.
If enacted, the proposed tax allocation would direct sports betting revenue to a crime-fighting fund, amid warnings of illegal-market risks.
