Brazilian lawmakers consider 15% tax on sports-betting deposits

Regulation

Brazil’s Chamber of Deputies is considering a proposed 15% tax on deposits to sports-betting platforms as part of the anti-organised-crime bill, the report said. The measure is projected to raise R$30 billion annually for the National Public Security Fund; a consultant warned it could drive bettors towards illegal operators, while the proposal’s Senate rapporteur disputed that risk.

The proposal could change the cost of deposits for regulated operators and intensify competition with illegal betting sites.
