Alberta gaming commission bars political event wagers under internet gaming rules

Regulation

Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission amended its internet gaming standards to prohibit commercial operators from offering odds on elections, by-elections and party leadership contests, according to the report. The change took immediate effect ahead of Alberta’s planned commercial online gambling launch later in 2026.

Operators preparing to enter Alberta’s commercial market must exclude political-event wagers under the updated standards.
