AGCO orders C$170,000 in penalties against Great Canadian over Pickering Casino Resort

Ontario’s Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) ordered Great Canadian Entertainment to pay $170,000 in penalties over its monitoring and reporting of potential money laundering at Pickering Casino Resort. An AGCO audit found shortcomings in assessing and tracking high-risk patrons and in filing required Suspicious Transaction Reports. The company has 15 days to appeal the order to the Licence Appeal Tribunal.

The order underscores casino operators’ exposure to penalties and appeal deadlines when anti-money-laundering controls fall short.
