AGCO fines NorthStar Gaming C$100,000 over anti-money laundering failures

Enforcement & compliance

Ontario’s Alcohol and Gaming Commission (AGCO) fined NorthStar Gaming (Ontario) Inc. C$100,000 over alleged breaches of provincial anti-money laundering requirements. AGCO said the operator did not apply enhanced due diligence or verify a customer’s source of funds after its own procedures’ C$25,000 deposit threshold was reached in March 2024. NorthStar may request a hearing before the Licence Appeal Tribunal within 15 days of receiving the order.

The order highlights operators’ exposure to enforcement when required risk controls and source-of-funds checks are not applied.
