Operators of gambling venues in Piedmont must complete mandatory training on preventing gambling disorder by 31 December 2026, under regional rules. The requirement covers operators that host gaming machines with cash prizes, as well as managers and staff of gaming halls and betting halls within the categories set by the regional rules, according to the regional framework.
The training is set by regional law no. 19 of 2021 and its implementing provisions, which define the content, duration and delivery of the courses. Staff at bars, tobacconists and other premises with cash-prize machines must complete eight hours of training, while managers and staff of gaming halls and betting halls must complete 16 hours. Both groups must take four hours of refresher training every five years.
Courses must be organised by training bodies accredited by the Regione Piemonte. They cover the regulatory, health and behavioural aspects of gambling disorder, including recognising risk signals, how to relate to customers showing problematic behaviour, and knowledge of local services to which people needing assistance can be referred.
The measure is part of regional prevention of problem gambling and involves the network of licensed premises, giving operators a role in managing risk situations and informing customers. As the deadline approaches, affected businesses are advised to check the training status of their staff, schedule participation in the courses and obtain the certificates, with attention to existing staff, any new hires and the validity of training already completed.
