Piedmont extends responsible-gambling training to tobacconists with AWP machines

Regulation · SectorWire deskSource published 1 min read

In brief
  • Piedmont's responsible-gambling training duty extends to owners of venues with cash-prize AWP machines, including tobacconists, STS said.
  • The course lasts eight hours and must be completed by 31 December 2026 with a valid certificate.
  • The obligation covers only the venue owner, not employed staff.
  • FIT and STS said they had arranged accredited training on advantageous terms for FIT members.

Piedmont's regional rules on preventing and countering pathological gambling include a specific training obligation on promoting responsible gambling, according to the Sindacato Totoricevitori Sportivi (STS). A regional council resolution setting out how the rules are applied extends the requirement to owners of venues with cash-prize amusement machines (AWP), including tobacconists hosting such machines.

The course, titled "Promozione del gioco responsabile: gestione consapevole degli apparecchi automatici di gioco", lasts eight hours in total and must be completed by 31 December 2026, with participants obtaining a valid certificate of attendance and completion. The obligation applies only to the owner of the venue, not to staff employed at the tobacconist.

FIT and STS said they had acted well in advance to identify training provision meeting the Piedmont region's requirements, using accredited training bodies and setting conditions described as economically advantageous for FIT members. Meeting the 31 December 2026 deadline, the organisations said, means complying with a regulatory obligation and also contributing to the standing of a category they said is distinguished by professionalism, competence and a sense of responsibility.
