Ethiopian Lottery Service revokes sports-betting licences and orders shutdown

Enforcement & compliance

Ethiopia’s Ethiopian Lottery Service revoked the operating licences of all sports-betting organisations and ordered betting to stop nationwide from 15 December 2025. The notice cited a nationwide investigation and alleged licensing breaches, illegal activity, national security threats and money laundering; the Blask Index fell 67% between 29 November and 16 December, according to the report.

Operators and affiliates must account for the nationwide suspension of licensed sports-betting activity in Ethiopia.
