Edobet defendant says Turkey was the gambling site's main market

Enforcement & compliance

Cornelis Van Z. told a Dutch court that Edobet focused on Turkey and other countries where gambling was permitted. The prosecution alleges that the site enabled gambling in the Netherlands without a licence from the Kansspelautoriteit; Van Z. denies that it targeted the Dutch market. A ruling is expected this year, and his lawyer said a tax claim worth millions could follow a conviction.

The case could clarify the consequences of operating an unlicensed gambling site in the Netherlands.
