Virginia lawmakers propose independent gaming commission in HB 271
Virginia lawmakers introduced House Bill 271 on 9 January to create an independent commission overseeing the state’s legal gaming activities. The proposal would consolidate duties held by the Virginia Lottery, Virginia Racing Commission and Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, with implementing regulations due by 1 January 2028.
The bill could consolidate oversight duties currently held by three Virginia agencies if enacted.
