VGCCC fines Crown Melbourne $100,000 over exclusion breach

Enforcement & compliance

Victoria’s VGCCC fined Crown Melbourne $100,000 after a person excluded from the casino gambled there for 14 hours and 40 minutes without detection. The person had been barred two months earlier, and the commission’s chief executive said an inspector alerted Crown staff to the breach. Crown cooperated with the investigation and changed camera locations, gaming-floor entrances and staff training.

The fine highlights the need for effective detection of excluded gamblers and Crown’s changes to procedures.
