Valencian court upholds 850-metre school buffer for gambling venues

Regulation

The High Court of Justice of the Valencian Community rejected five challenges to Decree 97/2021, which sets restrictions on gambling halls and betting shops, the court said. The rulings uphold a minimum distance of 850 metres from educational centres and may be appealed to Spain’s Supreme Court. The court also rejected a request to refer provisions of the underlying law for constitutional review.

The rulings preserve the 850-metre school buffer affecting venue approvals and renewals in the Valencian Community.
