Riigikogu proposes 5.5% tax on Estonia’s remote casino games

Regulation

Estonia’s Riigikogu is preparing an amendment to restore gambling tax on remote casino games after a law that took effect on 1 January left them outside its tax wording. The proposal would apply a uniform 5.5% rate to remote games of chance and skill, with the Finance Committee setting 1 March 2026 as the intended effective date. Committee members said the omission was a drafting error, and company legal representatives agreed it was not intended as a tax exemption.

Remote casino operators may face a 5.5% tax if lawmakers pass the amendment on its proposed timetable.
