Offenburg court orders bet365 to repay player’s gambling losses

Regulation

The Offenburg Regional Court ruled on 30 January 2026 that bet365 must repay a player’s losses from online sports betting and casino games played in Germany between July 2016 and September 2020. The player lost about €80,000 on sports betting and around €10,000 on casino games; the court found the contracts void because the operator lacked a German licence for that period.

The ruling may affect operators’ exposure to claims over online gambling offered in Germany without a required licence.
