New Brunswick proposes rules for online live casino games

New Brunswick’s government has introduced legislation to give regulators authority to set rules for online live casino games, according to a media report. The province said the Atlantic Lottery Corporation proposed the concept, with detailed regulations to follow; Public Safety Minister Robert Gauvin said regulation would offer a safer alternative to unregulated games.
The province has introduced legislation to amend its Gaming Control Act, which would give the government authority to regulate online live casino games. Regulators would be able to make rules for live casino events if the proposed legislation passes. The government currently has no authority to establish regulations for the category.
The province said the ALC originally put forward the live casino concept. Specific rules will be drafted later. The Atlantic Lottery Corporation (ALC) is currently the only channel for legal online gambling in New Brunswick.
Reporting by the Telegraph-Journal on Oct. 21 said the provincial government was “exploring options” to legalize commercial online gambling. Doing so could mean following Ontario and Alberta by opening the market to private operators.
Public Safety Minister Robert Gauvin said: "Regulating these types of games will provide a safer alternative to unregulated offerings in the province." Gauvin added that live casinos are becoming more popular as online options expand. Finance and Treasury Board Minister René Legacy described the changes to the Gaming Control Act as a way to stay current with industry shifts.
