In brief

  • Alberta's regulated online gambling market recorded $56.6m in gross gaming revenue in September, up from $22.2m in July.
  • Approved operators grew from 15 at launch to 24 by 30 September.
  • AiGC said the early figures do not give a complete picture of the market.

Alberta's regulated online gambling sector posted September gross gaming revenue of $56.6 million, up from $22.2 million in July. Revenue in August was $43.3 million. The system launched on 13 July 2026, and further approved operators joined it as revenue increased. Approved operators grew from 15 at launch to 24 at the reporting date. The report's coverage runs to 30 September.

AiGC noted that the figures span only the first months of operation and the phased introduction of approved operators. The figures do not yet give a full view of Alberta's overall online gambling market. More operators are expected to join the regulated system before the end of 2026. The corporation intends to release performance reports every month.

Alberta's market opened with compulsory player verification, and operators must provide responsible gambling tools to players. A portion of the revenue is set aside for community and social responsibility work. First Nations receive a 2% share, and social responsibility programmes receive 1%.

AiGC CEO Dan Keene interpreted the early results as a sign that Albertans put value on tighter oversight and accountability. Keene said AiGC would keep explaining the dangers of illegal offshore sites and urge residents to choose platforms offering rights and recourse. In Keene's words, regulation imposes stricter accountability standards on approved operators and retains revenue within Alberta for programmes and services that residents depend on.
