Italian authorities seize poker venue and €7 million in chips in Bagheria

Enforcement & compliance

Italy’s Customs and Monopolies Agency and Guardia di Finanza seized a suspected illegal gambling venue in Bagheria during a Texas Hold’em tournament attended by 38 players. Authorities seized chips valued at about €7 million and other materials; the defence said the tournament offered no cash prizes, and prosecutors will assess the evidence.

The investigation may clarify whether the tournament breached gambling rules and the legal status of its organisers.

Earlier fines and penalties by Guardia di Finanza and ADM
