CFTC penalises George Santos $17,500 and imposes trading ban

Enforcement & compliance

The US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) imposed a $17,500 civil penalty and a three-year trading ban on George Santos over trading on Kalshi, according to the commission’s order. Santos must also disgorge $17,570 in trading profits; the order found he traded a contract on his attendance at the 2026 State of the Union and made misleading social media statements about his plans.

The penalty, trading ban and disgorgement show enforcement consequences for trading on event contracts.
