Brazil's incoming senators show mixed positions on gambling legislation

Regulation

A survey of Brazil's 54 incoming senators found 16 opposed to and 10 in favour of bill PL 2.234/2022, which would legalise casinos, bingo and jogo do bicho, according to a report. On online gambling, 35 have no recorded vote or public position; among the 19 with an identified stance, six backed retaining online games in the betting law and seven supported removing them. The new senators take office on 1 February 2027.

The incoming senators’ divided positions could shape legislation on casinos, bingo, jogo do bicho and online gambling.
