Brazilian Senate committee advances bill to ban betting advertising and sponsorships

Regulation

Brazil's Senate Science and Technology Committee approved bill PL 2.470/2026 on 2 September, proposing broad restrictions on advertising and sponsorships by fixed-odds betting and online gaming platforms. The proposal would prohibit promotions across numerous media and sports sponsorships, while allowing a 24-month transition for existing sponsorship contracts. The committee also approved an urgency request; the bill still needs consideration by the Senate plenary.

If enacted, the proposed restrictions would require operators to review advertising, promotional offers and sponsorship contracts.
