Brazilian mayors’ association asks Supreme Court to suspend betting ban

Regulation

Brazil’s National Association of Mayors and Deputy Mayors filed direct action ADI 8028 at the Supreme Federal Court on 29 September 2026, seeking to suspend Provisional Measure 1.394/2026, according to the report. The measure prohibits fixed-odds betting, and the association is asking the court to restore the previous regulatory framework; no reporting judge had been appointed.

The filing challenges a national prohibition that would affect betting operators and state-run lottery activity.
