Australian government limits sports betting adverts and bans stadium sponsorships

Regulation

Australia’s government announced new restrictions on sports betting advertising on 2 April in Canberra, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said. The rules cap radio and television adverts at three an hour from 6am to 8.30pm, prohibit adverts during live sports broadcasts in that period, and ban betting brands on professional team uniforms and stadium sponsorships. The government said the measures aim to reduce children’s exposure to gambling advertising.

Operators and sports leagues may need to adjust advertising and sponsorship arrangements under the new restrictions.
