Australian government announces new gambling advertising restrictions
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced restrictions on gambling advertising across television, radio, digital platforms and sports venues. The measures are scheduled to take effect from January next year and include limits on television spots, restrictions on radio advertising at school travel times, and online ads limited to logged-in adults who can opt out. Responsible Wagering Australia and Sportsbet criticised the package, while the Alliance for Gambling Reform said it did not go far enough.
Operators and advertisers will need to adapt campaigns to the announced restrictions across broadcast, online and sports settings.
