Northern Territory MLA proposes bookmaker deposit caps and inducement ban

Regulation

Independent Northern Territory MLA Justine Davis plans to introduce a bill proposing deposit caps and an inducement ban for licensed online bookmakers. The proposal would cap monthly deposits at A$500 for customers aged 18 to 21 and A$1,000 for those aged 22 to 24, and raise the maximum disciplinary penalty to A$10 million or 10% of annual revenue. Attorney-General Marie-Clare Boothby said the government would consider proposals on their merits.

Bookmakers licensed in the Northern Territory could face new customer limits, advertising restrictions and higher penalties if the bill advances.
