US Senate bars members and staff from prediction-market betting
The US Senate unanimously approved a rule barring senators and their staff from betting on prediction markets, reportedly on 30 April. The rule took effect immediately; Senator Bernie Moreno sponsored the resolution, and an amendment by Senator Alex Padilla extended it to staff. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer urged the House and Trump administration to adopt similar restrictions.
The rule restricts prediction-market betting by senators and Senate staff, including people with access to sensitive information.
