Tonybet said it has joined the Canadian Gaming Association, a trade association for gaming, betting, esports and lottery organisations. The company said it is licensed in Ontario and that registrations nearly doubled in 2025.

iGaming Ontario has launched BetGuard, a centralised self-exclusion service covering regulated online gambling sites in Ontario. Residents aged 19 and older can choose exclusion periods of six months, one year, five years or a custom term; once activated, an exclusion cannot be shortened or cancelled. The service includes the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation’s Proline platform.
Alberta’s Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis authority opened registrations for iGaming operators and service providers after amendments to provincial regulations were approved. Applicants must register with the AGLC and then secure a commercial operating agreement with the Alberta iGaming Corporation; the regulated private market is expected to launch later in 2026.
Senators Percy Downe and Marty Deacon led a November campaign urging Canada’s prime minister to ban sports gambling promotions, with 40 senators supporting their letter. Separately, Deacon introduced Bill S-211, which proposes federal standards limiting advertising frequency, placement and tone rather than an outright ban. The Canadian Gaming Association opposes a blanket ban and says provincial oversight offers protections.
The House of Commons Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage approved amendments to Bill S-211 on 3 November, advancing it towards a final House review. The proposed law would require the federal minister to develop a national framework on sports betting advertising; it has not yet received final approval.
The Canadian Heritage committee signed off on Nov. 3 on an amended bill that creates a nationwide structure for sports betting advertising. Bill S-211 now goes back to the full House of Commons for a last discussion and then a final vote. The Senate passed Bill S-211 in October 2025, and the House still has the report stage, a third reading and a last vote ahead.
Canada's gambling industry was worth CA$15bn as of January 2026, the highest since 1969, according to the Canadian Gaming Association. Participation fell from about 76% in 2002 to 64.5% in 2018, with growth driven by existing players' spending.
