Canadian senators press for gambling advertising ban as Bill S-211 proposes standards
Senators Percy Downe and Marty Deacon led a November campaign urging Canada’s prime minister to ban sports gambling promotions, with 40 senators supporting their letter. Separately, Deacon introduced Bill S-211, which proposes federal standards limiting advertising frequency, placement and tone rather than an outright ban. The Canadian Gaming Association opposes a blanket ban and says provincial oversight offers protections.
The competing proposals could shape whether gambling advertising is governed by federal standards or a national ban.
