Swedish parliament bans gambling on credit across licensed gambling

Regulation

Sweden’s parliament brought a broad ban on gambling on credit into force on 1 May 2026. The rules prohibit credit-card payments, gambling with bank loans or deferred payments, and credit provided directly by gambling companies; municipal lotteries are among the stated exceptions.

Licensed gambling companies in Sweden must no longer accept several forms of credit-funded play or extend credit to players.
