South Korean lawmaker proposes nationwide bullfighting ban

Regulation

Progressive Party lawmaker Son Sol proposed a nationwide ban on bullfighting in South Korea and called for the practice and associated betting to end, reportedly. She said the sport conflicted with animal-protection laws and criticised the Integrated Gambling Industry Supervision Committee for carrying out 17 bullfighting inspections, compared with 1,000 horse-racing inspections. The bill is due for debate in the National Assembly.

If lawmakers approve the proposed ban, South Korean bullfighting venues could lose associated betting.
