South Africa SIU recovers R3.2m in National Lotteries Commission grant funds

Enforcement & compliance

South Africa’s Special Investigating Unit said it recovered R3.2m linked to grants from the National Lotteries Commission. It reported full repayments of R1.5m by Todi Media Development Foundation and R1.71m by Zibsiflo NPC, saying both had unduly benefited from grant funding. The SIU said repayment does not remove potential criminal liability and that it has begun civil proceedings to recover state losses.

The recoveries concern lottery grant funds, while the SIU says repayment does not rule out criminal liability.
