South Africa’s NGB seeks help blocking unlicensed betting sites

Enforcement & compliance

South Africa’s National Gambling Board has asked technology providers to identify and block illegal betting sites operating in the country. The regulator cited estimates that unlicensed operators account for 62% of the online market; it also plans to share information with law enforcement. Licensed bookmakers support action against illegal sites but warn that higher taxes could drive players offshore.
