South Africa’s NGB says remote gambling servers are unlawful

Regulation

South Africa’s National Gambling Board said on 27 February 2026 that remote gambling servers are unlawful under current legislation. In a notice to provincial licensing authorities, the NGB directed them to prohibit the approval or continued use of these systems in licensed operations and require certified wagering and record-keeping systems. The NGB said it would monitor implementation and report compliance to the responsible minister.

The directive requires provincial authorities and licensed operators to stop approving or using remote gambling servers.
