South Africa’s NGB clarifies verified gambling operators portal

Regulation

South Africa’s National Gambling Board (NGB) clarified how its Verified Gambling Operators portal works, saying it lists information supplied by the country’s nine provincial licensing authorities. The NGB said a “CLOSED” label on a venue does not by itself indicate illegal activity and that the register includes provincially licensed bookmakers authorised to offer online sports betting. It also said the Remote Gambling Bill has not been approved and that gambling remains governed by the National Gambling Act and provincial rules.

Operators and consumers can use the register to check licensing information without treating a “CLOSED” label as proof of illegality.
