Seaport Research Partners expects Macau’s gross gaming revenue to decline 6.1% year-on-year in November. A sixth consecutive month of contraction would result.
Data from Macau's Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) put October gaming revenue at MOP$21.7 billion (US$2.69 billion), a 10% decline from a year earlier. Seaport's analysis found that VIP gaming revenue in October was down by over 35% from a year earlier. Mass-market revenue also declined, by a low single-digit percentage.
Vitaly Umansky, senior analyst at Seaport, said demand remains weaker in the higher-end gaming segment. He blamed economic weakness in China, lower share valuations, and a tax crackdown on offshore trusts owned by wealthy individuals holding assets overseas. Some big spenders have put off their trips to Macau, he said.
