Scottish Greens propose venue tax to fund gambling-harm services
The Scottish Greens proposed a surcharge on non-domestic rates for land-based casinos, betting shops and other gambling venues in their 2026 manifesto. The party said the proceeds would fund public health measures and support services for gambling-related harm. The proposal is separate from the statutory levy already paid by licensed operators.
The proposal could add a venue-based tax alongside the existing statutory levy if adopted.
