Regulation

Kenya is projected to collect Sh24.8 billion in gambling taxes through the Sports Fund in the financial year beginning 7 July, funding a scheduled Sh6.5 billion payment to Talanta bond investors. The 15-year bond raised Sh44.79 billion for stadium construction, and investors received an estimated initial payment of Sh3.25 billion in January. The Sports Fund is due to lapse in August 2028, while the bond has no formal government guarantee.

Investors’ scheduled bond payment relies on gambling-tax revenue, while the Sports Fund is due to lapse before the bond term ends.
