People moves

The National Indian Gaming Commission appointed William (Billy) Kirkland as an associate commissioner for a three-year term, the commission said. Kirkland will continue serving as assistant secretary for Indian Affairs at the Department of the Interior. The NIGC is also seeking a vice chair to succeed Jean Hovland, who stepped down in April after five years in the role.

The appointment adds a commissioner to the federal body that regulates Indian gaming alongside tribal governments.
