New York governor proposes biometric checks and AI promotion limits for sports betting
New York Governor Kathy Hochul plans to ask the New York State Gaming Commission to explore biometric age checks for online sports betting and restrictions on AI-driven promotions. The proposals would apply to licensed online operators; the commission reported increased underage access, and state figures put 2025 wagers at about $26.3bn. Hochul also proposed insurance coverage for gambling-disorder treatment, a Gambling Health Institute and a 10-year study.
Operators may face new age-verification and marketing restrictions, alongside expanded treatment and research measures.
