New Mexico sues Kalshi over alleged unlicensed sports betting

Enforcement & compliance

New Mexico’s Department of Justice is suing Kalshi, alleging that its sports event contracts amount to online sports betting that violates state law. Attorney General Raúl Torrez said the action seeks to protect the state’s gaming framework and consumer safety; Kalshi denies that its products constitute gambling and says state laws do not apply to it. The state also alleges that Kalshi admits users aged 18 and over, below the state-required age of 21.

The case challenges whether Kalshi can offer sports event contracts in New Mexico without a gaming licence.
