Mississippi senators propose felony ban on online sweepstakes casinos

Regulation

Mississippi senators David Blount and Joey Fillingane have introduced SB2104 to make online sweepstakes casinos illegal under state law. The bill would classify operating one as a felony, with convictions carrying fines of up to $100,000, up to 10 years in prison, or both. Representative Kevin Felsher said he hopes lawmakers will approve online sports betting this year, but there are no immediate plans to add it to the bill.

Operators in Mississippi could face felony charges and substantial penalties if the proposed ban becomes law.
