Minnesota bans specified prediction markets as CFTC seeks injunction
Minnesota enacted a law prohibiting specified prediction-market contracts, with the ban due to take effect on 1 August 2026. The CFTC sued Governor Tim Walz and other state officials in federal court, seeking a preliminary injunction and arguing that prediction markets fall under federal jurisdiction. Kalshi and Polymarket also criticised the law.
The court challenge could affect whether prediction-market operators may offer the covered contracts in Minnesota.
