Minnesota bans prediction markets through signed bill
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz signed a bill on Monday that makes operating or assisting a prediction market in the state a felony. The CFTC said the ban disadvantages farmers who use its regulated contracts for hedging and risk management; the commission has filed lawsuits over similar state restrictions elsewhere.
The felony provision changes the legal exposure of prediction-market operators and participants in Minnesota.
