Massachusetts study reports veterans’ share of problem gamblers at 20.6%
A Massachusetts Gaming Commission-funded study examined gambling among veterans through 43 interviews across 25 cities and towns, alongside two stakeholder focus groups. It cited a Massachusetts population study in which veterans accounted for 20.6% of respondents classified as problem gamblers, compared with about 3.7% of the state’s population. The report recommends screening, peer-led programmes and confidential, low-barrier support.
The findings identify veterans as a population for gambling-harm screening and support services in Massachusetts.
